Frequently Asked Questions

how often will i attend sessions?

For the most effective results, consistency is key! You should plan to attend regular weekly sessions for the first 90 days after we begin therapy. After that that 90 day period, we will re-evaluate your progress and determine if a reduced frequency is appropriate for you.

If you feel that once a week is not enough to address your concerns, please let me know so we can discuss options and adjust our session schedule.

what should i do if I'm unable to get to my in-person appointment?

Please contact me via phone, text, or email as soon as possible to let me know. If you are able to reach a private space with access to a secure internet connection and your phone, tablet, or laptop, we can do the session via telehealth. In that case, I will email you a link to join the session.

If you are unable to join remotely, you can opt to reschedule the same week, if availability allows, or resume therapy at your next scheduled session.

what should I do if I'm not feeling well?

Please contact me via phone, text, or email as soon as possible to let me know. If you still want to do your session and are able to reach a private space with access to a secure internet connection and your phone, tablet, or laptop, we can do the session via telehealth. In that case, I will email you a link to join the session.

However, I do strongly encourage you to prioritize your health! When you are not feeling well, your ability to focus on therapy and your tolerance for challenging discussions will be reduced. I urge you to take our sessions time to instead practice selfcare and give your body what it needs. We will reschedule your session when you are feeling better.

If you feel under the weather at all while heading to, or arriving at, your in-person appointment, please let me know. We can continue with the session if you are up to it, but I will take the opportunity to use a mask. Masks will also be available for your use. I interact with loved ones who are elderly or who have compromised immune systems. It is important for me to stay as healthy as possible for their sake, and so I can keep providing uninterrupted care to my clients. I appreciate your understanding!

can i record my sessions?

No, recording sessions without my knowledge and consent is illegal in both Washington and Oregon. If you feel the need to record, please bring this to my attention so we can discuss alternative options, such as assistance with note-taking or session summaries.

As I will explain in more depth during our first session, as an Associate-level clinician, I am required by law to participate in regular supervision sessions with a fully licensed therapist. As part of the supervision process, I am required to record some sessions to ensure that my clients are receiving the highest level of care. Rest assured, I will NEVER record a session without your written permission and you always have the right to refuse. Recordings are stored within HIPAA compliant, encrypted software, and destroyed per WA and OR state laws.

can i still do my telehealth session if I'm travelling outside of wa or or?

No, unfortunately, due to state laws, you cannot do your sessions from a state where I am not licensed to treat you. I currently hold a license in both Washington and Oregon. If you anticipate travelling to a different state (or country) during your scheduled session, please let me know so we can reschedule.

do you treat children?

No, I have chosen to limit my practice to adult clientele. If you are looking for a therapist for your child, I would encourage you to visit the Association for Play Therapy (APT) website to locate Registered Play Therapists near you.

Also, please see my Group Therapy section for information about the Child-Parent Relationship Therapy Group (CPRT) I offer throughout the year. This 10-week group will teach you techniques used by Play Therapists that you can use at home!
